This guy is amazing! His name is Jonathan Coulton
He is a singer/songwriter with a great sense of humor and absolutely no recording contract. To make up for this lack he writes one song a week and puts it on the internet. Personally, my favorites are Code Monkey and Re: Your Brains. See the full collection here. All his stuff is Creative Commons liscenced, with no DRM, which means free to pass on with no guilt or difficulties. 
I ducked out of the end of my Bumbershoot shift yesterday so I could run home and run to the Jewelbox. I was the absolute last person to get in, and that's only b/c the couple in front of me weren't gonna try to sit one on top of each other. Some guy who came in about five minutes after I got to the door (but was on the guest list) gave me his seat so I didn't have to sit on a step. He seemed slightly embarassed when I bought him a beer for it. The show was unmitigatedly awesome! A tiny venue full of people who could sing along and really loved the tunes. The setlist included Skull Crusher Mountain, I Crush Everything, Shop Vac (which he called Suburban Hell and couldn't remember the chords on, quite endearing really), Code Monkey, Re: Your Brains, You Ruined Everything, Womb With A View, First of May, Millionaire Girlfriend, and Keenesaw Mountain Landis. I know his funny stuff a lot better, but You Ruined Everything and I Crush everything are awesome serious songs.
Afterward he put his guitar behind the curtain and walked right out into the sweaty knot of fans that was hunkered down at the merch table. He's incredibly chill and genuine up close. He was slightly mystified at the sign, but definitely got into it.
